- This gene encodes a protein that is involved innglycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor biosynthesis. ThenGPI-anchor is a glycolipid which contains three mannose moleculesnin its core backbone. The GPI-anchor is found on many blood cellsnand serves to anchor proteins to the cell surface. This protein isninvolved in the transfer of ethanolaminephosphate (EtNP) to thenthird mannose in GPI. At least two alternatively splicedntranscripts encoding distinct isoforms have been found for thisngene.
