- This gene encodes a protein subunit of the coatomerncomplex associated with non-clathrin coated vesicles. The coatomerncomplex, also known as the coat protein complex 1, forms in thencytoplasm and is recruited to the Golgi by activated guanosinentriphosphatases. Once at the Golgi membrane, the coatomer complexnmay assist in the movement of protein and lipid components back tonthe endoplasmic reticulum. Alternatively spliced transcriptnvariants have been described.
