- Histones play a critical role in transcriptionalnregulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events.nHistone acetylation/deacetylation alters chromosome structure andnaffects transcription factor access to DNA. The protein encoded bynthis gene has sequence homology to members of the histonendeacetylase family. This gene is orthologous to mouse HDAC7 genenwhose protein promotes repression mediated via the transcriptionalncorepressor SMRT. Alternatively spliced transcript variantsnencoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
