- This gene is one of two arylamine N-acetyltransferasen(NAT) genes in the human geneome, and is orthologous to the mousenand rat Nat2 genes. The enzyme encoded by this gene catalyzes thentransfer of an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to various arylaminenand hydrazine substrates. This enzyme helps metabolize drugs andnother xenobiotics, and functions in folate catabolism. Multiplentranscript variants encoding different isoforms have been found fornthis gene.
