The four HD2 proteins of Arabidopsis thaliana (AtHD2A-D) belong to a unique class of histone deacetylases that is plant specific. Histone deacetylation gives a tag for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events, and it is involved in the modulation of abscisic acid and stress-responsive genes.
