PDCD12 （AVEN） represents a new class of cell death regulator. PDCD12 is a conserved intracellular membrane protein which blocks apoptosis impeded by Apaf-1 mediated caspase activation. BAD and Bcl-2 also interact with PDCD12 to prevent apoptosis. PDCD12 is expressed in a wide variety of normal tissues including the heart， skeletal muscle， kidney， liver， testis， and also in diseases such as cancer.
