CD2-associated protein appears to act as an adapter protein between membrane proteins and the actin cytoskeleton. It may also be a factor in receptor clustering and cytoskeletal polarity between T-cell and antigen-presenting cell. It seems it could also anchor the podocyte slit diaphragm to the actin skeleton in renal glomerulus. It is required for cytokinesis.
