Desmoplakin pS2849 is high molecular weight protein of desmosomes. It is a member of the plakin or cytolinker family and is involved in the organization of the desmosomal cadherin-plakoglobin complexes into plasma membrane domains in the anchoring of intermediate filaments to the desmosomes. The phosphorylation theoretically affects its association with epidermal, simple cytokeratins and VIM intermediate filaments.
