TFPI is also known as lipoproteinassociated coagulation inhibitor (LACI). TFPI encodes a protease inhibitor that regulates the tissue factor (TF)-dependent pathway of blood coagulation. The coagulation process initiates the formation of factor VIIa-TF complex，which proteolytically activates additional proteases and this leads to the formation of a fibrin clot. The encoded protein is glycosylated and primarily found in the vascular endothelium and plasma.
