Antimalarial drug, through heme polymerase inhibition in parasite cell digestive vacuoles, and also exhibits anti-inflammatory, cancer cell growth inhibition and possible anti-metastatic properties. Inhibits autophagy through increasing lysosomal pH resulting in inactivation of the lysosomal proteases required for the final destructive step of the autophagic process.
